James Demetrios Polzois was born in Harlan, Iowa on January 13, 1937. He studied at the Berryman Piano Conservatoire in Omaha and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Creighton University in Omaha. He moved to Charleston in 1973 where he continued to study art and architecture. He began documenting the history of Charleston architecture by producing elegant, measured drawings of some of Charleston’s most acclaimed buildings. He worked on this collection from 1977 – 1992. He published a set of 25 prints titled “Building and Design in Early Charleston” in 1995 and in 2001 he published a set of sixteen art prints titled “Measured Drawings of Charleston Houses, Churches and Public Houses”. A collection of Mr. Polzois’ art, writings, photographs, and drawings is archived at the Addlestone Library of the College of Charleston. Mr. Polzois, a classical pianist, organist, historian, draftsman and fine artist, passed away on September 17, 2018. These drawings are printed and sold with the express permission of the artist before his death.
Individual plates are printed on premium, acid free, off-white paper.
